Remington-Beals Rifle

A .32- or .38-caliber sliding barrel single-shot rifle, with octagonal barrels of 24", 26" or 28" length. Barrel can be moved forward by lowering trigger guard/lever. This model found with frames made of brass or iron, the latter being worth approximately 20 percent more than values listed below. Walnut stock. Barrel marked "Beals Patent June 28, 1864 Jan. 30, 1866 E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, New York.". Approximately 800 manufactured between 1866 and 1888. Few examples are known to have been factory engraved. Prospective purchasers are advised to secure a qualified appraisal prior to acquisition.
