Yugoslavian M-57A Licensed Tokarev

This version of Tokarev was manufactured by Crvena Zastava in Serbia from 1957 to 1992. A redesigned variant of the Tokarev. Frame was extended with a longer grip to allow use of a 9-shot magazine. Has a clamp-retained firing pin assembly versus cross pin retainer found on standard Tokarev design. A matted sight ramp on the slide top was also added to reduce glare. M-57 Tokarev pistols began to be imported to United States in the 1990s. Listed as M-57A, because of the addition to U.S.-required supplemental safety, which is a flat, frame mounted type that slides along the upper left grip. Those that have the communist crest, with six pointed flame and Roman numerals, are of interest to collectors as they are pre-1980s production and will enhance values up to 40 percent. Serial number is located on right frame and slide flat, with M-57 marked on left slide. Zastava continues to produce this pistol in 9mm Luger and lists as M-70A. Any of the current military surplus M-57A Licensed Tokarev pistols with an A or B suffix following the serial number and a Five Torch Crest on the upper slide, should have 70 percent added to below prices. M-57A pistols produced from 1961 through 1974 will have a prefix in lieu of a suffix and will be marked C through P with a Six Torch Crest. The latter became standard in 1964 following the change of the Yugoslavian Republic from Federated National Republic of Jugoslavia to Socialist Federated Republic of Jugoslavia. Prices for the latter remain as indicated below.
